Provisional Registration Checklist

Section 6 of the Political Parties Act, 2012(Amended 2022)
  1. An application for a provisional registration shall be accompanied by the following DOCUMENTS:
  • A Copy of the Constitution of the political party.
  • A Request for registration of name of political party ( and if it proposes to use an abbreviation of its name, set out that abbreviation)
  • Proposed party logo and emblem/ party colours.
  • Minutes /Signed resolution of the first meeting of the founding members, policies, plans and manifesto;
  • Undertaking to be bound by the Constitution and the Act.( signed by authorised official of the party)
  • Banker Deposit Slip (enclosed) on account of provisional registration fee drawn in favour of the Political Parties Council pursuant to the Second Schedule Item No.1 of the Political Parties Council(Amendment) Regulations 2024.
  • Payable to:
    • A/c No: 00269191297240—South Sudanese’s Pounds (equivalent to prevailing dollar rate)
    • A/c No: 00269211298179-United States Dollars
  1. The Political Party shall provide a List of officials of the party authorised to sign on all party documents on behalf of the party.
  1. The Political Party shall provide a list of members of the governing body and proof accompanied by proof that:
    1. The Body reflects regional, ethnic diversity, gender balance and representation of special interest groups.
    2. The Body has at least one member from each state.
    3. At least 35% of the members of the Body are women.
    4. The Members meet the ethical requirements as governed by the Constitution, the Act and any other laws.

TO ABIDE BY THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS ALL BODIES/PERSONS APPLYING FOR REGISTRATION AS A POLITICAL PARTY SHALL BE PROVIDED WITH THE FOLLOWING FORMS WHICH SHALL COMPLETED CORRECTLY AND CLEAR ANSWERS GIVEN AGAINST EACH REQUIREMENTS AND FURNISHED TOGETHER WITH THE APPLICATION AND DOCUMENTS ABOVE REQUIRED

NOTE:
  • A political party that has been provisionally registered shall no later than one hundred and eighty (180) days from the date of the provisional registration apply to the Council for full registration.
  • The provisional registration of a political party which has applied for full registration shall be valid until the party is issued with a certificate of full registration or until the application of the political party to be registered has been rejected.
  • A political party that has only been provisionally registered shall not be entitled to participate in any election BUT shall be entitled to:
  • hold and address public meetings in any area in South Sudan for the purposes of publicizing the political party and recruiting members;
  • protection and assistance of the state security agencies for the purposes of facilitating peaceful and orderly meetings; and
  • provision by the state of fair opportunity to present the programmes of the political party.

The Political Parties Council is mandated to register and/or deregister, regulate and monitor activities of political parties under Section 21 of the Political Parties Act, 2012 as (amended) 2022
