The Political Parties Council (PPC) has officially approved and endorsed the registration of five political parties following a compliance and verification process conducted under the Political Parties Act.
Among the approved entities is the IO Party, formerly known as the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-in-Opposition (SPLM-IO), whose new legal identity has now been formally recognized.
Other registered parties include the National Democratic Movement (NDM), People’s Liberal Party (PLP), South Sudan National Movement for Change (SSNMC), and Revive South Sudan Party (RSSP).
The Council says the registration increases the total number of fully registered political parties in South Sudan to 39, describing the move as a step toward strengthening political pluralism and preparations for the electoral process.
PPC Chairperson Eng. James Akol Zakayo urged all registered parties to conduct their activities peacefully and in accordance with the laws and the Transitional Constitution of South Sudan.
