About the Council

Welcome to the South Sudan Political Parties Council | PPC

The Political Parties Council | PPC was reconstituted in November 2023 by H.E Salva Kiir Mayardit President of the Republic of South Sudan under the  Political Parties Council Act, 2012 (Amendment) Regulations, 2022.

On 3rd November 2023 by presidential Decree No. RSS/RD/J/231/2023, the President of the Republic of South Sudan appointed the Chairperson (Hon. Eng. James Akol Zakayo), a female Deputy Chairperson (Hon. Dr. Lona Loduro) the Executive Secretary (Hon. Dr. Peter James Lemi) and Seven Part-time members who subsequently took oath on November 17th, 2023 before the President and Deputy Chief Justice.

Our Mandate

The Political Parties Council | PPC which is mandated to register, regulate and monitor activities of political parties is empowered under Section 21 of the Political Parties Act, 2012 ( as amended) 2022 to carry out the following functions:

Functions of Political Parties Council | PPC

  1. Register, monitor, regulate and de-register political parties in accordance with the provisions of the Political Party Act, 2012 (Amended), 2022.
  2. Issue certificates of registration to political parties.
  3. Indicate in the register that changes have taken place within a political party.
  4. Maintain records of registered political parties.
  5. Administer the Political Parties Fund.
  6. Investigate and determine complaints received under this Act.
  7. Ensure publication of audited annual accounts of political parties.
  8. Prepare the annual budget proposal for the Council and submit it to the National Council of Ministers for consideration and approval by the Transitional National Legislative Assembly.
  9. Observe the conduct of political parties’ primary elections.
  10. Carry out any other function as may be prescribed by the Political Party Act, 2012 (Amended), 2022.

The Political Parties Council is mandated to register and/or deregister, regulate and monitor activities of political parties under Section 21 of the Political Parties Act, 2012 as (amended) 2022
